True to its name, the Museum always features substantial and changing exhibits of bird carvings by Wendell Gilley. From his first miniature drake to a life-size turkey, over one hundred birds from Gilley's carving career are on display. Workbenches, tools, and works-in-progress provide insight to the process of carving, while nesting eagles and loons illustrate elements of the lifecycle of birds. The beauty of both birds and the artform is evident in the carving, texturing, and painting of the pieces.

Barbara Ernst Prey: Earth, Sea, Sky
July through mid-October 2018
This exhibition celebrates Barbara Ernst Prey’s long engagement with the landscape and people of Maine, where she has been painting for more than forty years. The exhibition highlights her work with large-scale watercolor paintings and newer oil paintings, including several recent paintings from Mount Desert Island and the town of Southwest Harbor.

A Flight of Swallows

Many thanks to all who supported the Museum at this year's wine tasting benefit.
Plan to join us next year on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Neighborhood House for another round of delicious wines and food pairings. Learn more about each wine through conversation with the pourers and The Field Guide to the Swallows created for this event. Bird carving demonstration, jazz music, and excellent conversation make for a fun and festive evening.

See our events page for upcoming talks and activities.
