Family Art and Nature Activities

Most Saturdays from 1-3:00 pm

Encouraging the creative spark in all of us, we offer art and nature program for families for children ages 5 and up with their adult companions. The program will focus on exploring, learning, and creating art together. Registration encouraged.

August 5, 12, 19, and 26 will be a chance to experiment with printmaking using a reduction method similar to (but simplified) that of Andrea Rich's woodcuts. Free with admission or membership.

Ten Days in Acadia Book Talk and Signing

Thursday, August 17, 2017 5:30 pm

Join author Hope Rowan for a conversation about her recently published book, Ten Days in Acadia: A Hiking Guide to Mount Desert Island. She will talk about her map-making process, taking field notes, and the value of exploring outdoors. The Museum will provide materials to make bookmarks.

Hope Rowan, a resident of Southwest Harbor, likes looking under seaweed, mucking around in dirt, and studying maps. For the past fifteen years she has been creating maps as a certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Professional. Hope’s early vacation experiences in Acadia led her to attend the College of the Atlantic where she received an advanced degree in Human Ecology. She is a fan of camping, hiking, kayaking, and spending time outdoors.
